Roll On And Vanish

As we all do, as we all will, so Senator Edward Kennedy passed in his turn yesterday from this world to the next.

In the endlessness of time, one would think that every effort must come undone, every stone laid must turn to dust. In our lives we leave little trace of our ever having been here.

The Greeks in their Golden Age discovered Democracy, and although the Golden Age lasted only 200 years, their new form of government defined an ideal - government of the people, by the people, and for the people - that guides us to this day.

So did, in his decades in the Senate, Edward Kennedy also, in bill after bill, work to make our democracy a government of, by and for the people. His legacy is a government that we the people own.

He lived to see the dawn of our new era, the fruit of his efforts, where a citizenry combined itself by technology into a force that beat money and power at the polls. A people has taken its country back.

Thank you, Senator Kennedy. May God know you well.
